Kastalia - Platform for writers and artists
Kastalia is an initiative of essayist/exhibition maker
Jurriaan Benschop from Amsterdam. As a platform for authors and artists
Kastalia stimulates the interaction between visual art and literature, which
crystallizes in publications and events.
From the foundation in 1998 Kastalia published eight editions of the art
magazine Kastalia : a combination of artists' contributions and literary
essays about art. The last edition appeared in 2002. Since then Kastalia
occasionally issues thematic publications, such as the compilation now being
prepared in Berlin.
Kastalia twice organised a programme with film classics in Amsterdam. A
number of authors and artists were asked to choose a personal film classic
and to introduce it to the audience. Next they were shown on the big screen.
Alicia Framis, Marijke van Warmerdam, Rineke Dijsktra and Hans Aarsman among
others participated in these programmes, the results of which can be found
in the Dutch publications.
